A fresh face for a legacy brand

DCS has been in the business of professional garment care for over 75 years. They’re one of Mauritius’ longest-standing dry cleaning companies, with a strong reputation for quality and innovation in the laundry and textile care industry. But their digital presence hadn’t kept up with their offline credibility. The old site felt dated, didn’t reflect the brand’s sustainability edge, and didn’t clearly showcase their premium services.

That’s where the brief started: give DCS a fresh new look, something clean, modern, and true to their brand.

The project was brought in by Business With Innovation (B-Wi), who subcontracted both myself (for development) and Xavier (for UI design). It was a fairly straightforward handoff: Xavier handled the mockups, and I took over the build.

Short timeline, shorter content

The real challenge wasn’t technical. It was structural. The entire site had to be developed based on mockups that used placeholder content. There was no final copy, no proper image library, and no clear sitemap hierarchy to guide layout decisions.

I started development based on the initial designs, but much of the build had to remain flexible. As content trickled in from the client, I had to revisit multiple sections to refine layout, spacing, and flow. In essence, I was designing and developing live in tandem with the evolving content, a time-consuming approach, but necessary under the circumstances.

Performance without the bloat

Even with the messy content situation, I was deliberate about one thing: performance.

The website was built using Elementor Pro, but I made sure to keep it lean. Minimal plugins. Lightweight scripts. Clean sectioning. The result is a website that looks polished without compromising speed. Page loads are smooth, animations are subtle, and the structure is well-optimised across both desktop and mobile.

There’s no gimmickry, no over-complication. Just a modern presentation of an established service provider.

Feedback and friction

Like many subcontracted projects, this one had its friction points. The process with B-Wi wasn’t always smooth, they were still learning the ropes of managing a web project, and often leaned heavily on Xavier and myself for strategic and practical input. Not all feedback loops were efficient, and some of our suggestions got lost in the shuffle.

That said, the site did go live. DCS finally had a modern, credible platform to point their clients to. The client was happy with the final product and proud to have a site that aligned with their quality of service.

Digital alignment for a greener operation

Although the website doesn’t feature high-end custom development, it does exactly what it needs to do. It tells DCS’s story with clarity. It brings their commitment to eco-conscious dry cleaning front and centre. And it gives them a stable, performance-focused platform that can scale with their business.

Some builds aren’t about pushing technical boundaries. They’re about cleaning up the basics and making sure a business shows up online in a way that matches who they are offline.

And for DCS, that’s exactly what we delivered.
